Tom and Justin answer all questions concerning the DSi. Was it worth it? Find out this week on The Rumble Pack.
The Rumble Pack Posts
This week on The Rumble Pack: GDC, topic by topic.
I actually have been blogging – just not here. I’ll try to post my rumble musings more frequently, but you can also find me on my mandatory, forced-at-gunpoint editing blog.
I can clear the first two circuits of Punch-Out!! with my eyes closed, I have childhood sketchpads filled with doodles of Bald Bull and Soda Popinski, and I hope to name one of my future sons King Hippo. I grew up on that legendary NES game. I understand the nostalgia. Even so, I cannot fathom how anyone can dismiss its sequel, Super Punch-Out!!, when it outclasses its predecessor in nearly every respect.
Super hit the virtual console on Monday, and already, the critics were quick to remind us how it’s not nearly as beloved as its prequel. Well, that may be true, but only because it was so criminally overlooked back in the day. But more importantly, I’ve been dismayed by the lack of love in the upcoming Wii revamp. Granted, we’ve only seen four fighters so far, but all of the marketing seems to suggest that developer Next Level Games has forgotten Super.
Bloody good show! This week is all about the handhelds, as the crew delves into Henry Hatsworth, GTA: Chinatown Wars, and a slew of slick iPhone games. Tony lets everyone know if EA’s genre-blending experiment is worthy of the critical acclaim, while Justin deals digital dope in the most “adult” DS game yet. After a brief feline interuption and an embarrassing anatomy lesson, Kaz explains to Nick why games like WordFu continue to make the iPhone a viable gaming platform. This episode was recorded prior to GDC, so tune in next week for our takes on all of the big announcements.
The whole crew is on hand to discuss the bloody thrills of Resident Evil 5 and MadWorld. Tom wonders who will be his Sheva, while Justin recites some of MadWorld‘s more “colorful” color commentary. Later, Kaz asks if expansion packs still have a place in a post-DLC culture. Be sure to tell us what you think on the boards.
Nicolo joins the crew in Cleveland this week. We discuss Watchmen (both the film and game), the pitfalls of nerd snobbery, Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?, and Tony’s recent Kindle II purchase.
Put up your quarters and get in line – the Rumble Pack has plenty of dragon punches to go around. The gang is thoroughly enamored with the latest Street Fighter, even if unlocking secret characters causes some of them Zan-grief. The nostalgia doesn’t stop there, as Tony and Tom take on the Retro Game Challenge. Justin rides with the pack in The Lost and Damned and Kaz chugs some Bonk in the Team Fortress 2 update. Plus, tons of totally classy jokes at Noby Noby Boy’s expense!
This week on the cast: Flower, Far Cry 2, Street Fighter IV first impressions, and a serious, in-depth discussion of Rockstar’s Lost and Damned funoodle. Desperate ploy for attention or misguided attempt to push the boundaries?
